QuickBooks EDI

Tuesday, February 28, 2012, 1:00 PM
One of the most widely used business applications in North America is QuickBooks by Intuit. This software solution for financial management is designed for small to medium businesses and not for large businesses with volumes of transactions. Using QuickBooks is an ideal solution for a growing business and includes the national or regional Retail EDI.EDI is the Electronic Data Interchange that exchanges information between computer systems. The database engine is not optimized to handle large volumes of data transferred or processed. One company stated for this article that 'If you try to export 900 POs and to import 900 invoices, you will wait quite a bit.'There is help however as you read the article further. EDI terms are not common for QuickBooks developers and users. QuickBooks does not recognize SDQ (sales diagnostic questionnaire) or 850 (purchase order), 855 (purchase order acknowledgment), 856 (shipment notice/manifest) or even an 860 (purchase order change request - buyer initiated). Instead QuickBooks uses terms such as QB synchronization, QB web site integration and QB automation to name a few. The structured data in QuickBooks is predefined and designed for the sole purpose as an accounting program and needs human intervention. QuickBooks allows transfers of data in a CSV file (excel) or XML format with certain fields being mandatory in order to import data. At certain points human intervention is required to validate data or issues a check, PO or an invoice. Retailers EDI and QuickBooks individually have their own established standards so integration becomes a problem. Amosoft offers EDI application for the desktop versions of QuickBooks and is designed for the Retail industry that uses EDI. The data standards of QuickBooks and EDI must be converted to each others standards in order to be integrated. Only Amosoft EDI can truly integrate EDI to QuickBooks. Many companies offer their services for QuickBooks EDI integration via a third party. Retailers has been using QuickBooks for many years from large to small companies. QuickBooks data performance manages business applications and replenishes methods and retail relationships. The bottom line is that managing business applications using QuickBooks is wise accounting software until the determination of growth decides otherwise.
